Day 1, 2020: Nairobi- Meru national park, (348 Kms, 5 hrs drive).
The journey starts from Nairobi in the morning around 0800hrs and takes you through the Thika Super highways via the fertile farmlands and scenic surroundings and past the highest mountain in Kenya (Mt. Kenya). Proceed to the green and highlands of Meru region to the park situated farthest in the wilderness of Meru. Arrive in the afternoon with an enroute game viewing drive to the lodge for Lunch. Afternoon have a game viewing drive in the park with dinner and overnight at Rhino River Camp. FB
Day 2, 2020: Meru National Park.
Spend the whole day at leisure with 2 extended game viewing drives searching for the plain games leaving in this park almost undisturbed. Wildlife here includes: Gravy Zebra, Elephants, Eland, Bush Pig, Waterbuck, Cheetah, Leopard, Reticulated Giraffe, Hippopotamus, Bohor Reedbuck, Hartebeest, Python, Puff Udder, Cobra, Buffalo, more than 427 recorded species of birds. This park is also known as the home of Joy Adamsons and other attractions includes; Former home of Joy and George Adamson and Elsa the lioness, Rivers and riverine habitats, Adamson's falls and Tana River. the park also has the Rhino sanctuary which host the white Rhinos which have been captured, tranquillized, and transported from areas where their population was exceeding its carrying capacity. Everything in this park is outstanding and the reputation of the Park was enhanced by the fact that George and Joy Adamson reared and weaned here Elsa, arguably the most famous lioness in the world thanks to the book "Born Free" and the subsequent movie. Elsa was returned to the wild in Meru and here she died in 1961 by natural causes. The Adamsons stayed on and reared in the Park many others orphaned lions. Day 3, 2020: Meru National Park-Samburu Game Reserve (205 Kms, 3hrs drive)
Enjoy your breakfast at the lodge then depart for the remote Samburu Game reserve. You will drive past the northern tip of Mount Kenya to the Lewa downs and finally to the buffalo springs for enroute game viewing drive to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, enjoy afternoon game drives within this scenic reserve which is home to rare plant and wildlife species. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Samburu Game Lodge.
Day 4, 2020: Samburu national Reserve.
Spend the whole day at leisure with unlimited game viewing drives in this reserve inhabited by special game adapted to the semi arid conditions. These special animals: the Gerenuk, Gravy Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Somali Ostrich and the Beisa Oryx can only be seen on the northern park of the Equator. Samburu game reserve is a semi desert with a rugged hilly terrain, with great rocky kopjes (small isolated hills) and lots of springs supporting the abundant wildlife. The solitary mountain rises to 2,145m from an otherwise flat area. The Samburu National Reserve was one of the two areas in which conservationists George Adamson and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness made famous in the best selling book and award winning movie Born free. The Samburu National Reserve is also the home of Kamunyak, a lioness famous for adopting Oryx calves. The specialties that can only be found in this part of the world are the gravy zebra, the Somali ostrich, gerenuk and the reticulated giraffe and gazelles the lesser kudu leopard and plenty of lion and herds of elephants and plenty of bird life and other small game. Day 5, 2020: Samburu - Aberdares National Park (175Kms, 2hr:30min )
After your sumptuous breakfast, drive to Aberdares National Park to meet your lunch at the Out Span Hotel which is a base serving for the Treetops Lodge. If time permits you will have a brief stop over at the equator where you will have a chance to stand on the 2 hemispheres at the same time as well as experiencing the "corriolis effect". Proceed to be welcomed for lunch at the Out span Hotel. Afternoon transfer to the tree lodge where you will spend the rest of your day watching animals coming to drink water and lick salts at the floodlit waterhole. The Treetops lodge is famous for its historical royal connection. One afternoon in February of 1952, a young English girl climbed the fig tree as a Princess. The following morning, she descended as Queen Elizabeth II - her father, King George VI, had died in the night. The park is mostly covered with thicket forest and game viewing drives is minimal and can only be organized by the Lodge at an extra cost. Different Varieties of wildlife come to take water at the flood lit waterhole. Dinner and overnight at the Tree Tops Lodge.
Day 6, 2020: Aberdares - Nairobi (165 Kms, 2hr:30min)
After breakfast you will have a morning departure from Aberdares and be driven to Nairobi where you will be dropped off in the afternoon to mark the end of your safari with us!
